There was a debate about the detrimental effect of shoulder bags in Sweden, back in the late 70s. Children’s backs and their protection was the issue. Along came Kanken backpack from Fjällräven. It was made to distribute the weight on both shoulders (by using shoulder straps) thus reducing the back problems among children. It has a main compartment, two side pockets and one front pocket. The pockets include a removable sitting pad, when you want to rest. All of them are zippered, which makes them easy to access. It’s quite understandable why they revolutionized school bags. They also are quite popular among people who enjoy hiking, or exploring the countryside in general.
Kanken backpacks are made of Vinylon, which is lightweight, durable and water repellent. Modern versions include mini and laptop, plus Fjällräven has added even more colors. Basic design and practicality deserve two thumbs up. [via]
