Remember one of our more recent posts about the lovely stationary designed by a sister duo that go by the name of A Beautiful Mess? Weren’t you delighted with how creative they are? Well, most of the projects featured on their website (designed by other likeminded, imaginative people) are not only original but also practical, elegant and relaxing. Just like the product we are featuring today which should become a must have in every home – a DIY hammock chair.
This particular DIY hammock chair is designed by Rachel Denbow who was inspired by her kids to make something that will “either teach them independence or nurture their creativity”. The hammock is perfect for those kids who love to get lost in the world of books and need some undisturbed ‘me’ time. Although, it is primarily made for children, it can be used by adults too considering that the chair is strong enough to hold up to 200 lbs.
Everything that you need to make it can be found in your local timber yard and DIY shops. You will need an oak dowel (a hard wood is recommended for this since it needs to be able to support the weight), braided polypropylene, plain canvass, stainless steel spring snap link (which is sturdy enough to hold up to 220 lbs), stainless steel quick link (that can hold up to 660 lbs), black fabric paint and paint brush. As for the required tools, every house has them – a drill, sewing machine, iron & ironing board, shears, ruler and lighter. Please click on the following link to get the detailed instructions on how to make this cute DIY hammock.
With a little bit of skill and patience, the end result will be entertaining, engaging and will definitely put a smile on your child’s face.
